Summer is the best time of year to enjoy our garden. And while it’s true that not all of us have one at home, those who do know that it’s a real treat to make the most of it when the weather is nice—with an outdoor dinner, get-togethers with friends, or even parties.
And, of course, to be able to host all those events, we need to keep everything organized and well-maintained. In fact, with temperatures so high in recent weeks (and expected to keep rising in the coming years), we have to take a series of special precautions to ensure that all the plants survive and that the furniture doesn’t suffer excessive damage.

Tips for Caring for Your Garden During the Summer
Plan Your Watering Schedule
During the hottest months, it’s essential to make sure our plants and flowers get enough water. However, this is becoming increasingly difficult due to the drought that plagues our country every summer and potential water outages in our community.
To do this, consider what kinds of plants you have and what each one needs.
As for the best times to water your plants, it’s best to do so first thing in the morning, very early, when it’s still cool; or, if not, in the late afternoon, when the sun has gone down and temperatures have dropped. If you water during the hottest part of the day because you have no other time to do so, keep in mind that the water is likely to evaporate quickly and may not reach the plants’ roots.
Keep some areas in the shade
Yes, the intense summer sun can damage leaves and flowers. That’s why, if you can provide shade for most of your garden—or at least for the most sensitive plants— during the hottest part of the day , your garden will look even more beautiful.
To do this, you can use awnings, umbrellas, or build wooden structures if you have enough space.
Be prepared for pests
Just like us—who love to go outside when the weather gets warm— pests multiply rapidly during the summer months.
However, you can prevent this and try to spot any signs of pests or diseases in your plants early on. In fact, if you notice any problems, you should address them as soon as possible to prevent them from getting worse.
One of the keys to this, in addition to watering it, is to remove weeds and, of course, fertilize it properly. Use the organic fertilizer that works best for it: you can use compost, manure, etc., because these options are essential for its optimal care.
Protect Your Furniture
If you have wooden furniture that’s exposed to the sun all day, you’ll notice that, over time, it loses its color and starts to deteriorate quickly. To prevent this, varnish it when you buy it and every so often. The wood will look nicer and shinier, and it will also be more resistant to the elements.
The same thing happens to fabrics: they lose their color. That’s why we recommend buying outdoor fabrics. For example, marine-grade fabric—which, although expensive for sofas, is the only type that can withstand heat and rain all year round.

Listen to your garden’s needs
Properly caring for your garden during the summer months is essential to keeping it in good condition. Adjust your watering schedule, protect your plants from the sun, control pests and weeds, and provide them with adequate nutrients. Follow all these tips, and you’ll be able to enjoy a healthy, well-maintained garden throughout the season. Remember that every garden is unique, so listen to the needs of yours.
