th sustainbility impact awards

Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has announced the winners of the 2024 Sustainability Impact Awards in Spain and Portugal. This year’s awards recognize partners, customers, and suppliers who have stood out for their exceptional commitment to sustainability through innovative solutions that contribute to a greener future. With more than 450 entries submitted worldwide for the global edition, the initiative has once again surpassed itself this year.

Schneider Electric’s Sustainability Impact Awards were launched in 2022 to highlight the vital role played by companies committed to a more sustainable and resilient world. Now in their third year, participants have been evaluated based on their energy, digitalization, and automation solutions in their operations, which reduce energy consumption and improve operational efficiency.

Awards in Spain and Portugal

CEN Solutions has been recognized for its facilities at the MegaPark Business Park in Dos Hermanas (Seville), one of Spain’s largest industrial plants dedicated to the manufacture of electrical equipment. The facility was designed according to strict sustainability criteria, incorporating an 850 kWp photovoltaic self-consumption system and a 2,500 kWh energy storage system. To achieve this, the company relied, among other solutions, on a microgrid and electric vehicle chargers from Schneider Electric, which are essential for optimizing energy control and management.

CULMIA has been recognized for its 222-unit housing project in Badalona (Barcelona), designed with a comprehensive approach to sustainability. It stands out for its continuous facade featuring an ETICS system, which provides a high level of thermal insulation, and high-efficiency aluminum window and door frames designed to minimize heat loss. The electrification of the entire energy demand through a centralized heat pump system has enabled the project to achieve an A energy efficiency rating. Additionally, Culmia has implemented a smart control system, using Schneider Electric’s KNX technology in collaboration with its partner EcoXpert ADR Ingeniería, which monitors water, HVAC, and electricity consumption in real time for each unit—a feature that led to the project receiving a “Very Good” rating from BREEAM. This commitment to digitalization and decarbonization sets a new standard in the construction sector.

Iberdrola has been recognized for its “Advanced Smart Assistant,” a platform that allows customers to monitor and optimize their energy consumption through the Iberdrola Clientes app. This solution connects devices such as electric vehicles, managing them automatically using artificial intelligence. By intelligently and automatically shifting energy consumption to the best times of day, it enables users to achieve an average savings of 30% on their bills and reduce CO2 emissions by 600 kg per year. Its innovative AI-based platform and its direct impact on the energy transition position it as a transformative tool in the market.

Inmotechnia has been recognized for its project with student housing facilities to improve energy control and management. Thanks to Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Building Operation (EBO) solution, they have been able to monitor and optimize the facilities’ energy consumption, ensuring maximum savings and efficiency. As a Schneider Electric EcoXpert partner, the company is thus contributing to the sustainability and digitalization goals of this booming market.

OÖD Architects has been recognized for its Villa Ayantam project in Marbella, designed in collaboration with the team at Peláez Ingeniería, which combines bioclimatic design and advanced technology. The home incorporates KNX technology and Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Building Operation platform, optimizing energy efficiency and comfort. This comprehensive approach has enabled Villa Ayantam to achieve the highest BREEAM rating ever awarded to a residential building in Spain, standing out for its sustainability and innovative design.

Roca Group has been recognized for its leadership in sustainability and its commitment to decarbonization. Roca Group stands out for implementing the world’s first electric kiln for the production of sanitaryware, reducing its CO2 emissions by 50% since 2018. In addition, the company has adopted digital tools such as various AVEVA software solutions to monitor and optimize the operational performance of its plants, along with EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) software to monitor energy usage. Its commitment to digitalization and the adoption of targets aligned with the SBTi initiative underscores its leadership in industrial decarbonization.

Zembe has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability and its long-term focus on investment and the well-being of its employees and communities. Zembe has promoted sustainability training for its employees and has established partnerships with educational institutions to foster internships and practical training. Its achievements include the installation of renewable energy systems, the transition to a more sustainable vehicle fleet, and the development of solutions to measure the environmental impact of the products purchased by its customers.

“The support and collaboration of our ecosystem of partners and customers is vital to achieving the sustainability goals that lie ahead,” says Jesús Requena, vice president of Marketing and Strategy for Schneider Electric in the Iberian region. “The Sustainability Impact Awards are designed precisely to recognize and highlight the initiatives of companies that work every day to decarbonize both their own operations and those of their customers. We are proud to have them on board and would like to congratulate them on their commitment to making a positive impact.”
