The Origins of Real Club La Moraleja

There are places that are chosen for their location.
And there are places that are chosen for what they represent.

Real Club La Moraleja

Real Club La Moraleja was founded in 1973 with a vision that was unusual for its time: not simply to build a residential development, but to create an environment where golf, nature, and architecture would coexist as part of a single lifestyle concept.

From the very beginning, it was an idea built around clear values:

  • Space
  • Privacy
  • Continuity
  • Athletic Excellence
  • Community

Since then, La Moraleja has been more than just an address. It has been a point of reference.

The club has grown alongside a community that values discretion, stability, and quality over publicity. Generations have made this environment a part of their daily lives, forging an identity that goes beyond real estate.

Living here means being part of a story that began more than 50 years ago and continues to define a lifestyle today .

Field II: The Natural Evolution of a Well-Established Project

Once the club had become a leading force, it was time to evolve.

In 1990, La Moraleja Golf Course II opened; it was designed by Nicklaus Design—the firm of the legendary Jack Nicklaus—under the direction of architect Ron Kirby.

It wasn’t just another expansion. It was a statement of continuity and ambition.

Campo II was created to complement and enrich the original project, adding a new strategic dimension to the complex as a whole. Three decades later, its mature trees, lakes, and the harmony of its layout have become an inseparable part of the everyday landscape for those who live across from it.

Today, more than just a golf course, it is a well-established setting that offers serenity, expansive views, and a sense of permanence that is hard to find.

Because what is truly unique isn’t what’s new.
It’s what endures.

Strategic Design and Gameplay Experience

  • Design Philosophy

Course II at La Moraleja was not conceived as a mere addition to the club, but rather as a concept with its own identity within an overarching project. Its purpose was to offer a complementary and balanced golfing experience compared to Course I, creating a tension between technique, strategy, and scenic beauty.

Essentially, the design embodies a fundamental premise of modern golf: it’s not enough to just hit the ball hard—you have to think through every shot, manage risks, and anticipate the sequence of decisions that set the pace of a round. This philosophy, characteristic of courses designed by Nicklaus Design, requires players to constantly evaluate alternatives, read the course intelligently, and plan for every situation.

In this context:

  • Course I presents a more challenging, narrower, and more direct technical challenge.
  • Field II covers a broader scope, where strategy and reasoning take center stage.

It’s not just about executing shots; it’s about reading the course and developing a personal strategy that will serve you today, tomorrow, and always.

  • Features That Define the Design of Field II

The identity of Course II is shaped by design elements that combine playability, natural beauty, and controlled challenge. Some of the features that make it unique are:

  • Scale and Strategy: Course II is longer and generally wider than Course I, which expands the tactical options from the tee. This doesn’t mean it’s easier; it means it challenges players to make thoughtful decisions, balancing distance, placement, and risk.
  • Integration of natural elements: The lakes that come into play on several holes are not mere ornaments; they shape the line of play and enhance the strategic element of each shot. They are positioned to present continuous decision-making opportunities and to connect strategy with the landscape.
  • Bunkers and technical greens: The placement of bunkers in landing zones and undulating greens demands precision on approach shots and finesse on putts. The course rewards players who demonstrate consistency, patience, and a keen understanding of the course.
  • An iconic hole: the 16th hole—with its green situated on a small peninsula surrounded by water—perfectly embodies the spirit of the course: a balance between visual beauty and technical challenge, where the player’s decision is just as important as the execution.

Beyond the technical aspects, the design of Campo II creates a landscape that has been carefully thought out for those who live in the surrounding area:

  • The bodies of water and the undulating terrain create a visual dynamic that changes with the light and the seasons.
  • The wide, open streets offer sweeping, harmonious views that transform every sunrise and sunset.
  • The trees, now fully mature, contribute to a sense of serenity and continuity over time.

Living across from Course II is part of a landscape where every corner was designed with purpose, where the quality of every detail—from the placement of water features to the undulations of each green—is intended to provide a holistic experience.

The Club: Prestige, Community, and Exclusivity

Real Club La Moraleja is not only a private club with a high-end design, but also a historic venue for competition and social life within the Spanish golf community. Over the years, it has hosted major national and international competitions, solidifying its reputation beyond the inner circles of its members.

Among the most notable milestones are:

  • The1992 World Cup of Golf, which featured teams from around the world and legendary players such as Fred Couples and Davis Love III.
  • Professional tournaments and events on the European circuits, such as the Oki Pro-Am or European Tour events, have put La Moraleja on the international golf map.
  • Challenge Tour events and the Castilla Championships, which have brought together some of Spanish golf’s greatest talents at various times.

In addition to its competitive side, the club maintains a busy social and sporting calendar throughout the year, featuring internal tournaments, age-group competitions, pro-am events, and themed gatherings where families and younger generations also play an active role.

This competitive environment not only strengthens the membership community but also providesopportunities for younger players to train, compete, and develop within a high-level golf setting.

The combination of a rich sporting tradition, well-established events, and ongoing social activities positions the club not only as a place to play golf, but as a true hub of experiences for its members and their families.

Culmia Virere: Architecture in the Face of a Legacy

Our developments are located right here in this unique setting, on the front line of Course II. Specifically, Virere Aqua is located across from the 12th hole and Virere Quetzal across from the 13th hole— both par 4s—offering a privileged view of two of the course’s most dynamic and strategic holes.

Each home has been designed to blend into this established setting, maximizing views of the countryside, maximizing natural light, and ensuring complete privacy.

We have designed spacious, contemporary, and efficient spaces, conceived to harmonize with the landscape and enhance the experience of living across from one of Madrid’s most prestigious golf courses.

Because when the surroundings are steeped in history, design, and prestige, the architecture must live up to them.

And living across from Field II isn’t just a promise for the future. It means becoming part of a legacy that has already proven its worth over time.
