February 18, 2022 – Culmia, one of Spain’s leading real estate developers, held the first conference dedicated to new challenges in the real estate development sector regarding health and safety at ASPRIMA’s headquarters. The event also included the presentation of the first-ever Health and Safety Awards.

The event, organized in collaboration with ASPRIMA, began with opening remarks by Daniel Cuervo, the association’s Executive Director, followed by a panel discussion featuring experts in the field: Gabriel Rodríguez del Río, Head of Safety and Management Systems at Quirón Prevención; Jorge González, Director of Prevention, Quality, and Environment at Avintia; Carlos Arévalo, President of ISSCO (Professional Association of Safety and Health Engineering in Construction); Manuel Bartolomé Alonso, Certified Technician at the Regional Institute for Safety and Health of the Community of Madrid and Associate Professor at the UPM R&D&I Chair; and Cristina Gómez García, Head of Occupational Risk Prevention at Culmia.

Among the main conclusions and ideas shared during the panel discussion, the need to place greater importance and emphasis on this issue and on the fundamental role played by all stakeholders in the pursuit of zero accidents stands out. Furthermore, technology is already helping to improve efforts in this field, and industrialization offers a reduction in workplace accidents of between 27% and 50%. And the use of drones and exoskeletons is already part of the present in this sector, which continues to face significant challenges—such as the integration of women on construction sites—challenges that will require a commitment to innovation and modernization.

Next, Francisco Pérez, CEO of Culmia, addressed the attendees with a speech emphasizing the importance of health and safety in the sector—two concepts already deeply rooted in Culmia’s practices regarding its employees and contractors working on its construction sites. Pérez noted that “thanks to this event organized in collaboration with ASPRIMA, we aim to highlight the importance of these two concepts by promoting their integration across the entire sector. For this reason, at Culmia we want to recognize excellence in health and safety by presenting the first edition of the Health and Safety Awards to the best professionals and projects in this field.”

In the “construction team” category, Pablo Prieto and Ana Moreno of SANJOSE Constructora were named first runners-up. Ismael García and Raúl Ruescas of CLÁSICA URBANA were named second runners-up.

As for the “health and safety coordinator” category, the first runner-up was Montse Pedrosa of BUREAU VERITAS, and the second runner-up was Néstor Gutiérrez of QSAFETY.

And in the “promotions manager” category, the first runner-up was Miguel Ángel Pérez, from Culmia’s Southern Regional Office, and the second runner-up was Almudena Sanchís, from Culmia’s Central Regional Office.

A Strong Commitment to Occupational Safety and Health

Since its inception, Culmia has demonstrated its commitment to its employees, positioning itself at the forefront of policies and initiatives aimed at preventing workplace accidents and protecting workers.

In addition, Culmia is the first Spanish real estate developer to join the international Vision Zero campaign, an initiative of the ISSA (International Social Security Association) that aims to improve worker safety, health, and well-being, as well as prevent work-related accidents and illnesses.
