June 20, 2024— Culmia, the real estate platform that brings together all housing solutions on the market, announces its participation in the UN Global Compact’s “Climate Ambition Accelerator” training program, which aims to help companies on their path toward sustainability by providing the tools and knowledge necessary to set ambitious, science-based emissions reduction targets.

In this way, Culmia further strengthens its commitment to sustainability and the Global Compact, joining a select group of 76 Spanish companies—and more than 2,600 from 80 countries—that are working to combat climate change.

Participation in this program, as seen in previous editions, has enabled participating companies to achieve a drastic reduction in their GHG emissions and increase their climate ambition.

This initiative is one of many that the company has been working on since its inception. Culmia articulates its commitment in this area in its Sustainability Policy, which is broad in scope and takes into account, among other things, the 10 Principles of the United Nations Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The general guidelines for implementing this Policy are structured around the strategic action areas— environmental, social, and governance —that define the company’s mission. In this regard, Culmia carries out a wide range of actions and initiatives related to innovation, sustainability, the environment, health and well-being, and workplace safety.

Notably, the company has adapted to industrialized construction methods, becoming a national leader with more than 3,200 industrialized homes built in various phases. This type of construction improves processes, enables better energy and waste management, and promotes a safer work environment, among other advantages.

Another of its most significant initiatives has been the creation of its own sustainability and healthcertifications —Cuarzo and Jade—involving all internal and external collaborators in projects from design through to marketing, with the goal of delivering a better product to the end customer from the perspective of health and sustainability.

These certifications align with international sustainability standards such as BREEAM, where, for example, it has achieved the milestone of obtaining an “Excellent” rating in the Design Phase for several developments under the VIVE Plan of the Community of Madrid it promotes, pioneering the achievement of this level in Spain for a residential building under the New BREEAM Residential 2020 Manual.

When it comes to workplace safety and well-being, Culmia remains firmly committed, as it has an Occupational Risk Prevention Policy that integrates safety, health, and well-being across its various work sites. Furthermore, it is aligned with the 7 Golden Rules included in the “Vision Zero” campaign of the International Social Security Association, which promotes the concept of zero health hazards for all workers.

In addition, the company has already held three editions of the Awards for Excellence in Safety and Health, which recognized the best initiatives in this area. Furthermore, the Community of Madrid recently recognized Culmia at the 6th Annual Occupational Health and Safety Awards with a special mention for its best practices in the coordination of business activities.

According to Anna Guanter, Culmia’s head of innovation, “We are very pleased to continue making progress toward our goals and commitment to sustainability by rejoining the Global Compact, this time through a program that will allow us to further reduce our emissions in line with science-based targets.” The Group continues to work on numerous initiatives across all areas related to its Sustainability Policy, and these measures are reviewed periodically to ensure they remain relevant and are continuously improved.
