Culmia, the real estate platform that brings together all the housing solutions on the market, is breaking ground on its first development built with industrialized wood, Culmia Mar de Calonge. Located in Sant Antoni de Calonge, in Girona, this development reflects Culmia’s commitment to sustainability, with wood serving as the primary material in the building’s structure.

The residential complex consists of a total of 54 two- and three-bedroom units ranging in size from 88 m² to 109 m², all with spacious terraces, parking spaces, and storage units. In addition to 4 commercial spaces, the development also features a community pool with landscaped areas, a sun deck, and a playground for children.

Culmia Mar de Calonge represents a milestone in the developer’s history, as it is the first development built using industrialized wood, with wood serving as the building’s primary structural element. It also combines this with reinforced concrete in the foundation, basement, and ground floor, along with other materials used on the facades and distinctive features of the building.

Wood construction promotes greater sustainability, as wood is a natural material with a very low environmental impact and a carbon-neutral footprint. The use of wood also contributes to greater energy efficiency due to its role as a thermal insulator. In addition, the building will feature a centralized air-source heat pump system for domestic hot water and individual air-source heat pump units for the HVAC system, which will help Mar de Calonge achieve the highest energy efficiency rating (AA) as well as the VERDE certification awarded by the Green Building Council Spain (GBCE). In this regard, the development will result in a reduction of 1,600 metric tons of carbon emissions, which is equivalent to the CO2 emitted by 780 cars in one year.

Culmia is strengthening its commitment to innovation and sustainability in construction through its strategic partnership with 011h, a new-generation construction company dedicated to industrialization using certified engineered wood. This approach not only absorbs emissions but also speeds up all processes and significantly reduces construction time—in this case, by an estimated 30% compared to traditional methods.

This approach reaffirms Culmia’s position as a leader in driving innovative solutions that transform the way we build, with a value proposition based on three fundamental pillars: industrialization, digitalization, and the use of circular materials.

Located in the province of Girona, in the coastal town of Sant Antoni de Calonge, Culmia Mar de Calonge has all the necessary amenities nearby and is just four blocks away from the beach at Sant Antoni Bay. In addition, bus lines L4 and 42, which stop near the development, make it easy to get around the town.

The residential complex is easily accessible thanks to the Mediterranean Highway (AP-7), which connects Calonge to the rest of Spain and the French border. Just 40 minutes from Girona and 35 minutes from Girona Airport, the AP-7 connects to Barcelona in just an hour and a half and also links to other roads that provide easy access to various areas of the city and its surroundings.

According to Josep María Cases, Culmia’s Regional Director for Catalonia, “the start of construction on Culmia Mar de Calonge brings us one step closer to realizing a project that represents a milestone in Culmia’s history: our first development built using industrialized wood. In addition to combining sustainability, energy efficiency, and quality, this development offers residents peace of mind while maintaining proximity to essential services and major cities like Barcelona.” He added that “this development clearly reflects our long-term vision, in which innovation and a commitment to the environment are fundamental pillars of our strategy.”

Since 2013, Culmia has delivered more than 7,400 homes in over 115 developments.
