Winners of the First Mario Armero Awards

Madrid, November 21, 2025 — The Madrid Association of Real Estate Developers (ASPRIMA), the real estate developer CULMIA, and San Pablo CEU University have announced the winners of the first edition of the Mario Armero Awards, an initiative that stems from a collaboration agreement signed by the three entities to promote research and innovation in the field of sustainable building and industrialized construction.

These awards recognize the best Final Degree Projects (PFG) by architecture students at CEU San Pablo University, focusing on sustainability, decarbonization, industrialization, and responsible real estate development. Through these awards, the organizing entities aim to foster young talent and its contribution to the future of the real estate sector by promoting innovative solutions that contribute to more efficient, technologically advanced, and environmentally friendly construction.

Each category includes a first prize of 2,500 euros and a second prize of 1,500 euros. The five winning projects in the three categories are as follows:

  • Best PFG in Real Estate Development and Urban Development— First Prize: Fátima Yepes Cagigal, for the Sonando project in Madrid. The jury praised the proposal’s urban vision, which successfully blends public space with new land uses, as well as its exploration of approaches to reusing and revitalizing existing, disused heritage sites.
  • Best PFG in Industrialization — First Prize: Joel Alexander Muñoz Vega, for the project “Where the Estuary Becomes a Stage.” It stands out for the technical quality and innovation of the construction technologies developed using industrialized components to optimize and improve construction quality, in line with the proposal’s appropriate adaptation to the site.
  • Best PFG in Industrialization — Second Prize: Marcos Bigliardi Magnoni, for the project “Nuevas Derivas.” He was selected for implementing solutions that reuse recycled naval structures, which significantly reduce environmental impact through compelling technical industrialization solutions that are well-suited to the proposal’s spatial outcome.
  • Best PFG in Sustainability/Decarbonization — First Prize: Álvaro Pozo Pérez, for the “Retiro Postextractivista” project. The jury praised the proposal’s environmental commitment, as well as its innovative approach to partial industrialization, comprehensive sustainability, and territorial regeneration, featuring a highly compelling formalization of perceptual and sensory spatiality.
  • Best PFG in Sustainability/Decarbonization — Second Prize: Tais Gianella Guevara Lima, for the “Raíces” project. The project’s spatial qualities were highly regarded, as it is an effective design well-suited to its context, while also offering a thoughtful analysis of the demographic, social, and environmental issues facing rural communities.
  • Best PFG in Sustainability/Decarbonization — Honorable Mentions: Leyre Moreno Cortés and Manuel Alexander Fustamante Mori. These are outstanding proposals in the areas of climate resilience and urban environmental quality.

The jury, composed of Sigfrido Herráez (dean of COAM), Diego Escario (Cano y Escario Arquitectura), Jorge Javier Camacho (CEU San Pablo University), Francisco Pérez (CULMIA), and Carlos Rubio (Rubio Arquitectura), particularly praised the technical quality, creative approach, and innovative focus of the submitted projects.

The award is named in honor of Mario Armero, a key figure in Spanish business history and a leading advocate for the country’s industrial modernization and innovation. Through this initiative, ASPRIMA, CULMIA, and CEU sought to recognize entrepreneurial spirit, academic excellence, and a commitment to a more sustainable and industrialized model of construction.
