If you’re lucky enough to have a second home by the beach, you’ll surely want it to be a place of peace and relaxation.
So the main goal is to make this a comfortable place for you and your loved ones. And to achieve that, the type of decor is essential: so don’t overlook the common areas, if you have any.
Keep reading, and we’ll give you some tips for decorating your beach house.

Simple Decor
When decorating a beach house, we recommend using simple, versatile furniture. Also, if you’re renting out that home during peak season, it won’t be worth making a very large investment. Instead, opt for something attractive, multipurpose, and suited to the situation.
Colors
We always associate a beachfront home with light colors… and that’s because they’re the colors that will suit you best. Light-colored paint and furniture will give your home a fresh, bright feel…
If you choose to mix light colors like white or beige, pair them with a color like blue—the quintessential nautical color that represents light, the sea, the sky…
But if you’ve seen it a lot, we recommend the earth-red shade—another color that’s also very beachy and, perhaps, less common.

Materials
To make your beach home a real success, using fiber accents is a must right now. You can incorporate them on the patio with rugs, lamps, cushions… And besides, not everything has to be for the outdoors—you can also place a few of these lamps inside your home to add warmth, originality, and personality.
Bamboo is another very common material. It’s trendy and gives your home a very casual look. And, along with bamboo, wood is a classic—light-colored wood looks great in this type of home. Not to mention that its texture and tones fit perfectly in any home.
Practical outdoor furniture
We began the article by mentioning that simplicity is the top priority in this type of home, but also that it’s important to be practical.
Even in beach areas, there are times when you can’t enjoy the outdoors, and it doesn’t make sense to have furniture that gets ruined every year by rain, sun, etc.
Use stackable, extendable furniture with nautical-type fabrics that don’t get damaged, resistant materials and, of course, a simple design.

Restored Furniture
It’s very common to see the interiors of a beach house with a refreshed decor. That antique piece of furniture—or one whose color doesn’t quite fit at first—can be transformed and painted to blend perfectly with a fresh, beachy style. You can paint it a vibrant color, or if you prefer something more neutral, white will bring in more light.
Eye-catching details
In any decor, the little details matter, and a summer apartment is no exception.
The details should be subtle and not overdone, and can include elements that remind you of the sea, such as a decorative piece shaped like a fish or an anchor, a decorative seashell, etc… You can always find these items in beach areas, and when chosen and placed in the right spot, they’ll give your home a summery look.
But be careful! If you use too many, your house will look like a flea market and won’t be as pretty.

Natural light stands out
Natural light influences both the decor and one’s mood. In a home like this, you should make the most of natural light and try to maximize it.
You can try rearranging the furniture, since it often casts shadows and, as a result, makes the space seem darker. Always keep the area around the windows unobstructed, try to keep the curtains and blinds open, hang mirrors, use light colors… all these tips will not only make your home look bigger but also fill it with plenty of light.
